Preschool for Kids – Parenting is one of the most challenging, and yet rewarding task. There are days when parents look at their children and wonder how blessed they are to be a parent! And there are other days where they just might wonder if the zoo is accepting donations!
Preschool kids have too much energy that needs to be channeled positively. The survey has shown that 90% of the brain develops when a child is 5 years old. The preschool kids don’t have fully developed logic skills yet, but they will still demand self-independence.
Common mistakes while parenting a preschool kid
- Straying away from routines
When the parents are not consistent with the routines, toddlers get confused. They start throwing tantrums. If sometimes we let them do something and sometimes we don’t, they don’t understand.
For example, the child wants to know why last time his mom let him play for 10 minutes after the school was over, but this time doesn’t want him to continue.
Solution: Be consistent whether it’s sleeping habit, dinner time or discipline.
- Focusing on the negative
It’s easy to perfect your child’s negative actions like yelling and screaming — and ignore the good ones. Parents usually focus on what they don’t want their kids to do.
Solution: Notice when your child is doing something positive, and praise their good action and behavior.
- Not limiting screen time
Whether it’s TV, video games, phone or texting, parents handover devices to toddlers to keep them involved and busy.
Solution: Limit the time for these devices.
- Missing the warning signs
Parents often try to reason the preschool kids when they lose their temper. Once the temper is lost, toddlers do not listen.
Solution: Figure out and find the warning signs like hunger, boredom, and fatigue.
- Encouraging complaining
Exactly before dinner time, your child starts crying, “I want to go to the park.” Parents often give in to these whines, but this only increases the attention-seeking behavior. Watch out, because they figure out what works for them.
Solution: Ignore it. For a non-aggressive behavior like sulking and whining, do not respond to the preschoolers. Your child might think that it didn’t work.
- Doing everything for toddlers
Doing everything for your kids will not help in the long run.
Solution: Having toddlers do things for themselves is the easiest and quickest way to improve self-esteem and feelings of accomplishment. Even if you have them do part of a task, their feelings of self-efficiency and will foster independent kids.
- Using Shame, Shunning, Or Threats
Parents say this that, “I won’t love you if you don’t do this.” Lots of parents do so in order to get their kids to obey them. But it is a short-term gain because later even the child doesn’t care either.
Solution: Never imply that there is a chance you might not love your child due to their actions.
- You don’t read to your preschooler anymore
Preschool kids are the age where reading books continue to be an essential bedtime routine. Books develop your child’s reading and language abilities.
Solution: Make a habit of reading aloud together. Knowing that your child talks a lot be okay with letting him interrupt the story to ask and answer questions.
Going to Preschool
Young children learn through play and creative activity so children can really benefit from going to the best preschool. This is where they start learning about how to get along with other children in an organized group. Preschool gives your child the chance to play with other children and practice social skills.
Children learn the most when educational and instructional activities are performed during some part of a day, which is something that top preschool programs focus on.
